If it does not turn freely, it is bad. Use a straight punch to punch out the roll pin holding the fluid drive to the motor shaft and replace the fluid drive. CAUTION: When punching the roll pin in or out, you MUST support the motor shaft solidly. You can easily bend it. EARLY MODELS If the fluid drive does not turn freely, try to figure out what is binding it. Remove the fluid drive from the motor by simply removing the two screws holding the fluid drive to the clutch lever. Pull the fluid drive straight off the shaft. Hold the clutch cone and turn the fluid drive housing around it. It should turn freely. If so, the bearings are probably good, and the motor shaft is probably bent. If the housing does NOT turn freely, the fluid drive is bad. Replace the defective component. |
When re-installing
the fluid drive, you must adjust the clutch lever as shown in figure
S-7. First, loosen the cam bolt locknut. Hold the solenoid plunger
all the way down (retracted) and adjust the cam bolt until you have 1/8"
of space between the lever end and the solenoid plunger extension (Figure
S-7.) Then tighten the cam bolt locknut, but be careful not to tighten
it too much. You don't want it to bind the movement of the lever.
7-7 SOLENOIDS (Early Models Only) If the spin or agitate solenoid is not working, remove it from the machine and test it for continuity as described in section 2-5(a) and 1-4(b). Test also for any stickiness in its movement. Replace if defective. If it appears to be good, check to see if you are getting voltage to it. This may entail running the machine while the cabinet is open, so be careful not to shock yourself, or injure yourself on any of the moving parts inside. Use your alligator jumpers to extend your test leads, and make sure that THEY |

are clear of any moving
parts before you put power on the machine or start it.
If you have no voltage, stop the machine, break out the wiring diagram and start tracing wires and switches as described in section 2-5! |
