| 2) Reach
up inside the bulkhead, past the rear drum seal, and pull the belt down
between the seal and the bulkhead. You should end up with one end of the
belt sticking out the motor inspection hole and the other end looped around
the shaft, visible through the drum shaft hole. (Figure S-4)
3) Push the belt up out of the way of the drum shaft hole and install the drum shaft bearing. 4) Using an open-end wrench on the flats of the drum shaft, turn the drum slowly COUNTER-CLOCKWISE ONLY and work the belt onto the outside of the drum. Try to keep the belt flat against the drum, with the grooves against the drum. (In other words, try to keep the belt from twisting too much as you install it.) |
5) When you get the belt around
the drum, turn the drum slowly and feel the rear drum seal with your fingers
to make sure it's in place and not pinched. If you have a small inspection
mirror, you can inspect it visually, too.
6) Run the belt around the motor pulley and tensioner as shown in figure S-5 and install the tension spring. Using your open-end wrench, continue turning the dryer drum slowly counterclockwise while guiding the belt into place on the drum with your other hand, until you're sure it won't pop off the pulley when you start the motor. 7) Don't forget to install and adjust the blower belt! |
